What Is Karaoke?
Karaoke is based on the Japanese word Kara, which means empty (as in Karate).
Oke is slang for orchestra, thus the word Kara-Oke (empty orchestra). In Greek theatre,
the orchestra is where the chorus stood. Karaoke was made popular in movie theatres where the audience sang along with
the bouncing b all in some cartoons in the 50's. Others enjoyed getting up on stage with bands to help sing along.
